There will be basketball the next few days despite the snowy forecast for the Roy C. Ketcham High School boys basketball team following Sunday’s 68-52 victory over James I. O’Neill at the Officials vs. Cancer Tournament at SUNY New Paltz.
The forecast is calling for up to two feet of snow between Monday afternoon and Tuesday night, but the Indians will do what’s necessary to prepare for Thursday’s game against district rival John Jay in Wappingers Falls. John Jay defeated Kecham by three points earlier this season in Wiccopee.
“We’d rather have them in the gym. You can’t replicate the shooting and the conditioning of gym time,” Ketcham coach Matt Paino said. “We’re at the mercy of the weather and the district will do what’s best for the students. Instead of giving them time off from basketball, we’ll have them watch video and see where we can have success.”
In Sunday’s victory, Ketcham received 16 points from Tim Reilly and 14 points from Matt Fields.
“We didn’t settle on the jump shots. We looked to get to the rim,” Paino said. “For a year we’ve struggled shooting, we shot 49 percent (Sunday). We stayed in the flow of our offenses and we got some layups.”
