New Hope Christian 59, Huntington 48 (OT)
CHILLICOTHE – In its season opener, Huntington fell to New Hope Christian Saturday night at home, 59-48.
The Huntsmen (0-1) had possession and a two-point lead with 0:48 left in regulation but turned the ball over allowing New Hope Christian to tie the game. After that, Huntington simply couldn’t take care of business late.
DeAndre Viney led the Huntsmen with 21 points while Brian Smith added eight. Elijah McCloskey also did his part with five rebounds and four assists.
Huntington will next host Alexander Dec. 2.
East Clinton 61, Paint Valley 51
WILMINGTON – While participating in the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic at Wilmington High School, Paint Valley returned home with a 61-51 loss at the hands of East Clinton.
The Bearcats (0-1) were down 47-27 at one point but battled back to within two points at 51-49 with 2:00 left in the fourth quarter. From there, Paint Valley was forced to foul which resulted in the 10-point loss.
“We had 23 turnovers,” Paint Valley coach Dave Shoemaker said. “That’s way too many to win a basketball game. Without Anthony (McFadden), our guard play must improve and it will. I was proud of the way we refused to quit so we do have some positives to build on.”
Sophomore Dylan Swingle led the way for PV with 26 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Jay Riley contributed with eight points while Adam Bales had seven.
Paint Valley will be back in action Dec. 4 at home against Piketon.
Washington Court House 63, Southeastern 55
WASHINGTON – The Southeastern Panthers suffered a season opening loss to SCOL foe Washington Court House Saturday night 63-55.
