After starting the season at 0-5, Battle Creek Central has now won three of its last four.
Battle Creek Central defeated Mattawan, 66-61, in this Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division boys’ basketball game at Mattawan on Friday.
“We were basically a new team, but now things are starting to come together. We are playing within the system now. I tell them, the system works, it’s not broke. And now guys are starting to buy in,” BCC coach Greg Williams said.
Wendell White had 21 points to lead BCC with Juan Warren adding 11 and DaMonte Thomas scoring 10 as the Bearcats improve to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the division.
St. Philip 56, (at) Burr Oak 41: Dreyson English finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals in the road win for St. Philip. Also for the Tigers (6-3, 5-0 SCAA), Hunter Haley had 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Drew Langtinga nine points and eight rebounds. (6-3, 5-0 SCAA).
(At) Calhoun Christian 51, Coldwater Pansophia 31: Chase Flech recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Calhoun Christian. Also for the Cougars (1-8), Keagan Sisco finished with 10 points and five steals.
Colon 50, (at) Tekonsha 34: Colon (3-4) was led by Brett Prell with 19 points, while Bailey Tyler added 10 points in the non-conference win. For Tekonsha (3-5), Chyene Wiescholek finished with 15 points, four assists and two steals.
Climax-Scotts 48, (at) Bellevue 40: Dallas Froberg had 16 points and five rebounds and Ethan Vosburg had 13 points and five assists as the No. 7 Panthers remained unbeaten. Also for C-S (8-0, 5-0 SCAA), Logan Hunter had six points and 10 rebounds. Bellevue (4-3, 2-2) received nine points and six rebounds from Tate McCarn, and eight points and four assists from Cam Shaw.
(At) Union City 64, Athens 43: Jalen Boes came through with 22 points as the Chargers won this Big Eight game. Also for Union City (6-1, 2-1), Darren Austin had 15 points, seven assists, six rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Athens received 13 points from Sebastian Hamilton, and 12 points apiece from Jonas Harris and Jake Iles.
Quincy 68, (at) Jonesville 50: Jake Rider notched 20 points, five rebounds and three steals to lead the unbeaten Orioles (6-0, 3-0) in this Big Eight contest. Also for Quincy, Quinn Eifrid had 12 points; Jake Jodway had 11 points, four steals and three assists.
(At) Jackson NW 74, Marshall 48: The visiting Redhawks suffered their first loss of the season in dropping this I-8 tilt. Jacob Brubaker had 17 points for Marshall (6-1, 3-1), and Montez Brewer had nine.
Delton Kellogg 45, (at) Galesburg-Augusta 41 (Fri): Landon Grizzle recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the road win for Delton Kellogg. Also for the Panthers (2-4, 1-3 KVA), Noah Leinaar had 10 points and eight rebounds and Gary Egelkraut had eight points and six rebounds. Galesburg-Augusta was led by Ryan Ranes with 17 points, while Austin Douglas had eight points.
