In a game in which Arlington High School boys lacrosse coach Don Connolly said neither team was likely pleased with their team’s play, the host Admirals outlasted visiting Wappingers 9-6 Saturday in Freedom Plains.
“We knew it was going to be a battle,” said Connolly, whose Admirals have won five of their last seven games and are 6-4 overall. “You throw in that rivalry aspect and you don’t know what to expect.”
Kevin Litchauer led Arlington with four goals. Brendan Sunday added three goals and an assist. Corey Coster contributed two goals. Javon Jackson had two assists and Kyle Connell had one assist. Jacob Azukas made seven saves.
For Wappingers (7-4), Jake Palmer and James Pratt had two goals each. Travis Ventura also scored. Justin Squeo made 10 saves.
Connolly said he was pleased with the defensive job Rob Tannenbaum did on Ventura and Shane Carroll performed against Jack Decker, who had one goal.
“Javon Jackson won 15 of 19 faceoffs and that was a big boost for us,” Connolly said. “We were not playing well, we really needed that and he was very strong for us.”
Arlington visits Carmel at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wappingers visits Irvington at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
