Playing two District 13-AA competitors in a week always has the Westview boys’ basketball team focused.
But the Chargers also had a perennial Class AAA state powerhouse on the schedule this week.
Westview kept calm through all three games and came away with three wins.
Westview sophomore Garrett Sams was a scoring leader throughout the week with a combined 56 points to keep the Chargers on a six-game winning streak.
Sams was the leading scorer in two of the three games this week. He put up 15 points against Crockett County on Tuesday to lead the Chargers in scoring, and he had eight points against South Gibson in the two district games on the week.
But his best performance came on Thursday in the Penny Hardaway Hoopfest against Ridgeway.
Sams scored 33 points against the Roadrunners.
Westview trailed by 17 points at halftime, but the Chargers used a second-half surge and two Parker Beal free throws with no time on the clock to force overtime.
Westview won by three points in overtime.
The Chargers are now 15-4 with a 3-0 mark in the District 13-AA standings. The four losses are to Haywood twice, Brentwood Academy and South Side.
Westview has a three-game week coming up with a trip to Obion County, the other undefeated team in 13-AA play, on Friday. Dyersburg and Henry County are the other two opponents.
