Boys roundup: Fowlerville knocks out Lansing Catholic

By

After falling to Lansing Catholic twice during the regular season, the Fowlerville Gladiators were able to top the Cougars when it mattered most by defeating them 48-44 in Monday’s Class B district opener.

Fowlerville senior Connor Collins scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, which included some big-time 3-pointers, to help hold off Lansing Catholic down the stretch.

“There is nobody that works harder than Connor Collins,” Gladiators (12-9) coach Fred Hackett said. “I’m so happy to see him come up in the biggest of moments and have a great fourth quarter.”

To start the final quarter, the Cougars (12-9) hit two free throws to cut their deficit to one. But Collins quickly retaliated with a 3to extend his team’s lead to four. Lansing Catholic was able to tie the game up midway through the quarter, 36,when Collins scored another bucket to give Fowlerville a two-point lead.

Then, with the game tied at 38, Collins hit another 3-pointer to give his team the lead for good.

“He’s an excellent shooter,” Hackett said. “He was obviously dialed in there.”

Matthew Fata scored a team-high 14 for the Cougars and Tony Poljan scored 12. Kenny Ferris scored 10 for the Gladiators.
