The St. Philip boys’ basketball team won 50-34 at Colon on Friday and the Tigers received some help from around the league to give them a good shot of at least a share of the league title.
In other Southern Central Athletic Association league action on Friday night, Bellevue beat Climax-Scotts. St. Philip (12-6, 10-3 SCAA) now sits just a half-game behind Climax-Scotts (15-4, 11-3 SCAA) in the SCAA and Bellevue (14-5, 10-4 SCAA) is right on their heels. St. Philip has two league games left and C-S and Bellevue have one.
“Bellevue beating Climax-Scotts was huge for us,” said St. Philip head coach Dino English. “We needed Bellevue to pull off a win to get us tied with C-S and now we have a chance to get a league championship.”
Dreyson English scored 12 points with six rebounds and Brayden Darr scored 11 points with four rebounds and three steals in the win for St. Philip. The Tigers’ Hunter Haley added nine points with six rebounds and Kevin Greenman had seven rebounds.
Loy Norrix 64, Battle Creek Central 54: Juan Warren scored 23 points with 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Bearcats fell to Loy Norrix. Jahmiel Wade scored 11 points with nine assists, and Wendell White had 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss for BCC (11-8, 6-3, SMAC East).
Bellevue 54 (at) Climax-Scotts 45: Tony Reid scored a career-high 26 points to go along with eight rebounds and three steals in the league win for Bellevue. Freshman Ryan Madry added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Broncos (14-5, 10-4 SCAA). Dallas Froberg led the way for C-S (15-4, 11-3 SCAA) with 16 points and Ethan Vosburg scored 13 points with five steals.
(At) Quincy 70, Homer 50: Jake Rider scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Quincy to victory. Also for the Orioles (17-1, 11-1 Big 8), Jake Jodway scored 17 points with eight rebounds and three assists and Nathan Karney had 15 points. Leading Homer in the loss was Brock Ridgeway with 17 points and Caleb Drumm with 15 points.
(At) Jackson Christian 54, Tekonsha 38: Riley Lloyd led Tekonsha with 12 points in the loss. Connor Jenkins added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Indians (5-13).
(At) Union City 55, Jonesville 31: Darren Austin had 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists in the win for Union City. Also for the Chargers (15-3, 9-3 Big 8), Elijah Way had 14 points and five assists.
Athens 55, (at) Springport 42: Athens’ Jonah Harris scored 22 points with 10 rebounds and four steals in the win. Jacob Iles added 17 points and five assists and Austin Cole had 13 points and five steals for the Indians (6-12, 3-9 Big 8).
Marshall Academy 61, (at) Calhoun Christian 25: Leading Marshall Academy was Isaac Mead with 27 points in the win. For Calhoun Christian (1-18), Chase Flach scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Brandywine 63, (at) Bronson 37: Daniel McMichael scored 11 points and Noah Roberts had 10 points in the loss for Bronson.
Charlotte 77, (at) Coldwater 52: Logan Targgart had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Collin Warner scored 12 points in the loss for Coldwater.
