After a full week of the boys soccer season in the books, teams are beginning to establish themselves in their respective divisions. Here are three key games to watch this week in Shore Conference boys soccer play.
1. Sept. 17 Jackson Memorial at Toms River South, 3:45 p.m.
Despite the opening game loss to Freehold, the Jaguars bounced back with a 4-0 result over Lawerence. They took a result away from a 1-1 draw against Toms River East, but can benefit early here with a divisional win against Toms River South. The Indians fell to Holmdel 3-0 but also rebounded with a decisive result against Brick. This one will be a good Ocean County match up with Shore Conference Class A South implications.
2. Sept. 17 No. 1 Freehold Township at No. 2 CBA, 4 p.m.
The early Shore Conference Class A North game we have all been waiting for arrives on Thursday. Nothing new for Patriots head coach Todd Briggs and company who have struggled to find the back of the net so far with just one goal in two games. That said, the Patriots still picked up results in both games after a draw against St. Joseph Metuchen and a 1-0 win over Marlboro. Freehold Township’s tough back line will be tested against a Colts team that defeated Midd. North 8-0 last week.
3. Sept. 18 Holmdel at No. 7 Rumson-FH, 3:45 p.m.
The Hornets picked up an impressive early result over Toms River South, but fell to Matawan 1-0 in a Shore Conference Class A Central game. Holmdel will look to get back on track in divisional play, against a Rumson-FH team that cracked the Asbury Park Press Top 10 poll after winning four straight games this season. An impressive overtime victory over Long Branch highlights the fast start to the season for the Bulldogs.
