The performance: Keen qualified for the championship heat of the 100 backstroke at the state meet. He finished sixth in the event, swimming a time of 51.42 seconds in the finals after swimming a 51.37 in the preliminaries.

The future: He will continue his swimming career at Tiffin University in Ohio, where he plans to study communications.

Quick notes: Keen graduated from Jay County a quarter early and plans to use the extra time to get a job and save money for college.

Keen says: “A lot of ups-and-downs, it was a good year at the end of it, though. And I’m really glad that got sixth. I didn’t even expect that coming into the year. Towards the end I didn’t even think I’d medal, but I’m glad I did.”
