With the spring season just around the corner, conditioning has started for the Chartiers Valley Boys tennis team. The boys have lost key players in the form of seniors and leaders from the last year including Nick Calla and Kevin Rectenwald. Nick and Kevin held down the 1st and 2nd singles slots with freshman Ryan Estatico playing 3rd singles last year. This year 4 year veterans and seniors Maxwell Kehoe and Jake Schwartzmiller are expected to step up and fill into the shoes left behind from the past year. New and second year members of the team include Alex Novelli and John Hentosch, who are expected to fill the first doubles slot on the varsity team. Along with them, juniors Quinn Boyle and Luke Rosato are expected to perform well this year. There is still a lot of young talent on the team that are expected to step up including sophomores Sammy Bellin, Theo Whetstone, and Matt Smith who all had an impressive showing on the JV team last year. There have also been rumors about many more new faces trying out for the team. Tentative first year trainee Jack Barlow says, “I have always considered joining the tennis team, but I haven’t had the time to get around to it. This year my curiosity got the best of me and I think I’m gonna give it my best shot. I think it would be fun to play with my friends and hopefully find a new hobby in the process.” For those who have considered trying out, you can contact Ms. Daeschner or attend one of the after school conditioning sessions every Monday and Wednesday.
