Freshman Naveen Chowdry won at second singles to help host Franklin D. Roosevelt High School’s boys tennis team to a 3-2 win over Saugerties on Tuesday in Hyde Park.
Chowdry defeated Emlyn Ellerby 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 with the match tied 2-2. Other winners for Roosevelt were Jay Gohel (3-0) at first singles and the second doubles team of Zack Apuzzo and Alex Verneuil.
Beacon 5, Carmel 2 – The Bulldogs’ second, third and fourth doubles teams each lost the first set, but rallied from behind to secure the win.
At second doubles Michael Borrello and Ryan Strong lost 6-7, but came back to win 6-3 and 10-5. The third doubles team of Mason Burch and Kellen Sela lost 1-6, but fought back to win 6-3 and 10-3. The fourth doubles duo of Cameron Nettleton and David Demetros took a 3-6 in the first set, but rallied to win 6-2 and 14-12.
“It was definitely our best win of the season,” said Beacon coach Dave Ryley, whose Bulldogs improved to 3-6. “They gave me heart failure a few times, but found a way.”
Beacon will host Hendrick Hudson on Monday.
Red Hook 5, Marlboro 0 — Colin Pierce won in straight sets at third singles 7-6, 6-0 as the host Raiders swept.
Singles winners for Red Hook were Joe Bryant and Ethan Longenecker. Winning Raiders doubles teams were Templeton Kaye and Christian Rohrmeier, and Thom Timperio and Ethan Husted.
Rhinebeck 5, John A. Coleman Catholic 0 — Alec Gautier, Megan Heller and Azure Leffeld won singles matches as the visiting Hawks won in West Hurley.
Doubles winners for Rhinebeck (4-0) were Rachel Tigges and Mitchell Hutchins, and Jack Spencer and Ian Katomski.
Highland 5, Rondout Valley 0 — Joseph Dolan, Massimilano Cutugno, and Dhruv Odedra each won singles matches as the visiting Huskies swept the Ganders.
Winning doubles teams for Highland were Doran Baker and Chad Doria, and Nevin Nedumthakady and Marc Cadet. Highland (1-3) faces Wallkill at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Newburgh’s Mount Saint Mary College.
Onteora 3, Spackenkill 2 — Zayed Anwar won at second singles in three sets, and second doubles team Chris Finck and Gautam Mekkat won at second doubles, but Spackenkill (2-1) lost in Boiceville.
Spackenkill hosts Rhinebeck at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
