Cherokee recently ended one of the longest losing streaks in Western North Carolina baseball (28 games).
The Braves’ 5-4 win home win over Andrews in extra innings occurred on March 26 and was the team’s first victory since March 2012.
Cherokee is off to a 1-5 start this season and led in hitting by junior Jason McMillan (.462) and sophomores Noah Pete (.333) and Menoch Grant.
McMillan, who is a shortstop, was 6-for-9 with four stolen bases and four runs scored in three games last week. Grant plays third base and went 3-7 with the game-winning RBI against Andrews.
Sophomore Jeff Girty (1-2) was the winning pitcher.
The two Smoky Mountain Conference teams play again Tuesday afternoon in Cherokee County at 4 p.m.
