Broomfield sends off Coach Croell with 5A state title

By

BOULDER – After continuously finishing atop the 4A standings over the last 20 years, including a stretch in which Broomfield won five straight state titles, the Eagles made the jump to 5A and had no problem as they beat ThunderRidge 47-42 in the state championship.

One thing was for certain heading into the 5A state championship game featuring Broomfield and ThunderRidge, and that was the Broomfield ladies would have a new head coach next year.

Head Coach, Mike Croell, announced at the beginning of the season that he was going to retire from coaching this year.

It was something that was on everyone’s mind, but they wouldn’t necessarily come out and admit it. When the final buzzer sounded Saturday night, the raw emotion displayed made it obvious how big his impact has been on this program.
