Robin Burgard, former Lincoln High basketball coach, has been hired as a men’s assistant with Mount Marty College.
Burgard, 53, spent 18 seasons as assistant boys basketball coach at Lincoln, taking the program reins from Lyle Pearson in 2005. Burgard led the Patriots for five seasons from 2005-09.
The former Northern State player was named Sioux Falls Coach of the Year three times during that span, winning the state’s coach of the year honor in 2009 after the Patriots won a Class AA state title.
That ’09 Patriots team, remembered for their breakneck pace and highlight-reel dunks, went undefeated and delivered Lincoln just its third state title in nearly 35 years.
At Mount Marty, Burgard will join the staff of head coach Andrew Baker.
“Coach Burgard will bring a tremendous presence to our team as well as a lot of experience,” Baker said in a statement. “He was a highly successful coach at Sioux Falls Lincoln High School and I know he will help out our team.”
