Champlain Valley’s Megan Gannon (18), Sierra Morton (15) and Naomi Burhans run to celebrate with their team after the Redhawks 3-0 win over Colchester in the Division I girls soccer semifinals on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER — Scoring twice in the final 30 minutes of the second half, Burr and Burton Academy handed high school girls soccer powerhouse Champlain Valley its first loss since the 2012 season on Tuesday afternoon.

Aggie Bisselle struck twice for the Bulldogs, including the game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes to play, to secure a 3-2 victory and snap the Redhawks’ program-record 48-game winning streak in the process.

CVU (4-1), the four-time defending Division I state champion, had posted back-to-back 18-0 campaigns under coach Stan Williams. The program had not suffered a loss since a defeat to Essex during the 2012 regular season, going more than 50 games without a loss.

Burr and Burton (6-0) got a second-half equalizer from Una Langran. CVU’s Sierra Morton knotted the game 1-1 before the break and Megan Gannon tallied to give Redhawks a 2-1 edge shortly after play resumed.

The Bulldogs also went undefeated during the regular season a year ago, edging the Redhawks in the Vermont Principals’ Association standings for the top seed in the 2014 postseason. Their bid for a perfect season was upended in a quarterfinal loss to Mount Mansfield.
