The Morris County Softball Tournament seeding meeting was held Tuesday night at Dover High School and Butler earned the No. 1 seed for the second year in a row.
“That’s really great for us, it’s great to get the number one seed but to stay there two years in a row, everyone works so hard so we’ll see if hard work pays off again,” Butler pitcher Larissa Spellman said.
The Bulldogs fell to No. 2 Morris Knolls in the final last year 3-1 after advancing to the championship game for the first time in program history.
“It definitely makes us want to work harder,” Spellman said of the loss last season. “It was the first time for Butler to ever be there (in the final) so it was huge for our squad, we want to work our hardest to get back to the final again.”
Jefferson was named the No. 2 seed while Montville, Morris Knolls, Chatham and Kinnelon rounded out the top six. Those teams will earn a bye into the first round.
The preliminary round must be played by this Saturday at the site of the higher seed. The first round needs to be completed by Tuesday, April 28 and the quarterfinals are scheduled for May 2, again at the higher seed. The semifinals are slated for May 7 at Peterson Field and the final will be May 14, also at Peterson Field.
