Doug Butler was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association High School Boys Coach of the Year for Florida cross country on Friday.
Butler was among 100 coaches honored, one boys and one girls coach in each state based on their 2014 seasons. In addition to the former Holy Trinity coach being recognized for the success of his boys team, Kristen McWilliams of Winter Park was the coach of the year for girls teams.
Butler’s boys won their eighth state championship in mid-November, as did his girls team. The boys took four of the top nine places in the final 5,000-meter race in Tallahassee.
All 100 honorees are under consideration to be chosen as the national coach of the year by the USTFCCCA.
