The Calico Rock Pirates received three big buckets from sophomore Brendan Sneathern in overtime and took a 41-39 victory over the Viola Longhorns in 1A-2 North Conference play Tuesday night at Longhorn Corral.
Viola opened the game on a 7-0 run and held a 14-5 lead after one complete frame. The Longhorns went cold in the second, getting just one point on a Trevor Himschoot free throw. Calico Rock outscored the Longhorns 14-1 to take a 19-15 halftime lead.
The Longhorns pulled within 24-23 at the end of three quarters, and the teams were tied 33-33 to end regulation.
Bryan Parnell scored nine points to lead a balanced Calico Rock (11-1, 3-0) attack, while Sneathern and Brett James added eight apiece. Dalton Lund paced Viola (7-6, 2-1) with 16 points.
The Lady Pirates used a 15-0 run to open the second half, taking a 50-23 win over the Lady Longhorns.
Calico Rock (9-3, 2-1) led just 13-12 after one quarter, before taking a 28-16 halftime lead and a 43-16 lead after shutting out Viola in the third.
Katie Hamby paced Calico Rock with 14 points, while Timi Killian added 12, and sisters Kelsey and Kallie Fry notched eight apiece. Emily Perryman led Viola (4-7, 1-2) with 10 points and Amanda Martin added six.
