To say that Derrion Grim would be a safe bet to finish the season as the state of California’s all-time single season leader in touchdown receptions is an understatement. The McNair High senior already has an astounding 25 scoring receptions in his final season, and he still has three regular season games to come.
You can see Grim’s record-tying touchdown grabs in the video above.
To be clear, Grim’s line in the record book lies squarely alongside the notch for most “regular season” touchdown catches; the complete season record, including the playoffs, lies with Folsom receiver Cole Thompson, who went on a postseason tear to finish with 34 scoring grabs. As noted by Black Hat Football, that might be a stretch for Grim to reach, but the regular season mark does seem like a fait accompli, with Grim’s McNair squad facing off against a woeful Edison team, winless and allowing a remarkable 55 points per game.
For Grim, the record will be a high point on his way to Nebraska, with the California receiver happy to adopt the cold for a chance to suit up with the Cornhuskers.
Given his prolific production, all with defenses keying on him alone, Cornhuskers fans may have plenty to be excited about as well.
