No one lost this past week in the Super 25 girls basketball rankings and there were only three teams with losses in the Next 25, so there was little movement in this week’s rankings.
However, as most of the teams are now getting into tougher playoff games, changes are likely on the horizon, and possibly as soon as later tonight.
No. 1 Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia) won the Philadelphia Catholic League title with a 50-45 defeat of Archbishop Wood (Warminster) on Monday as Ciani Cryor had 13 points, six steals and six assists and advances to the state AA playoffs.
No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) won its CIF Southern Section opener, easily defeating J.W. North (Riverside) 77-42 as Katie Lou Samuelson had 28 points. The Monarchs play Brea Olinda (23-3) tonight in the next round. The last time the teams met in the playoffs was in 2012, when Mater Dei took a 54-47 victory over the Ladycats in the Section 1AA championship game.
No. 3 Bedford North Lawrence (Bedford, Ind.) is 26-0 after Dominique McBryde had 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 60-44 defeat of Center Grove (Greenwood) in a regional semifinal on Monday. The Stars have a big test tonight when they play Columbus North (Columbus), which is 25-1, for a regional championship. This will be the fourth consecutive year the teams have met for the regional title.
