Jalaam Hill’s 32 points and 14 rebounds led Waggener to a 73-61 victory over Christian Academy Monday at the Louisville Invitational Tournament.
The Wildcats (10-6) jumped out early on the Centurions (6-11), shooting 58.3 percent in the first half (14 of 24).
Waggener then led by as much as 20 early in the second half before Christian Academy started chipping away. But the closest the Centurions got was seven midway through the fourth quarter
Still, the CAL comeback was enough to raise concerns for Wildcats coach Bryan O’Neill, especially after his team faltered in the fourth quarter against Ballard in an 80-68 loss last Friday. In that game, Waggener led 55-52 after three quarters.
“We’ve got to learn to finish games,” O’Neill said. “We’re still a little young and immature when it comes to that.”
Devon Cooper added 18 points for Waggener, who will face Doss on Wednesday. Logan Jones scored 14 of his 18 in the fourth quarter for Christian Academy, which also got 14 from K.C. Purvis.
