Brandon McNutt will serve as Camelback’s interim coach the remainder of the season.

Justin Watson resigned as head football at Phoenix Camelback on Wednesday, Athletic Director Steven Kuipers confirmed.

Kuipers said that Brandon McNutt will serve as interim coach the remainder of the season. He was head varsity coach at Camelback between 2010-13 and gave assistance to Watson on game nights.

“I felt like there was a lack of support from the administration,” Watson said. “I wasn’t given the tools to succeed.”

Watson didn’t say what tools those would be.

Kuipers said the resignation came unexpectedly.

He said that “administrative decisions and lack of support” where reasons given by Watson in his letter of resignation, but during his meeting with Watson, Kuipers said, “no further clarification was offered as to what exactly was meant by that.”

Watson remains at the school as a teacher.
