Canton’s varsity girls gymnastics team isn’t letting a little adversity get in the way.
Yes, the Chiefs recently lost Jocelyn Moraw indefinitely with a broken ankle, but they enjoyed a strong, all-around showing Wednesday night with a 141.25-to-138.5 win over Livonia Blue.
“After the disappointing second at the Rockford Invite (Jan. 3) because of Jocelyn’s injury, this was a good victory against a good team,” Canton head coach John Cunningham said.
Canton also fared well despite only having Maddie Toal and Allison Kunz available in just two of the events. Both are dealing with nagging aches and pains.
Kunz still made her presence known. She won bars with a score of 9.55 and finished second on floor (9.2).
Hailey Hodgson led the team with firsts on vault (9.3) and balance beam (9.15) while also registering second on floor exercise (9.2). Her all-around score of 34.875 was good for third place.
Cunningham said Jana Hilditch had her best showing of the season, going second on vault (9.2), uneven parallel bars (9.1) and all-around (35.5). Hilditch also registered an 8.9 on floor exercise to finish fifth.
Another highlight was turned in by Stephanie Cox, witth her personal best 9.2 on vault.
Meanwhile, Katie Dickson also had a big day. She placed third on bars (8.9), fourth on floor (9.1) and fourth on all-around (34.7).
