Is Carmel the top high school in the country for athletics?

Close. MaxPreps.com currently ranks Carmel No. 2 for the 2014-15 year, behind Bentonville, Ark. MaxPreps awards points for state and sectional titles, though the points are weighted based on the number of schools in the state and the classification of the school. More points are awarded for team sports like football and basketball than individual sports such as tennis and golf.

Bentonville, the 2014 MaxPreps Cup winner, has won seven state championships this school year. Carmel claimed state titles in boys swimming, girls swimming, girls cross country and volleyball. Bentonville has 818 points, followed by Carmel (764) and Cardinal Gibbons of Raleigh, N.C. (758). There are no other Indiana schools in the top 25.

Can Carmel rise to No. 1? There are six spring sports where the Greyhounds can raise their profile and they are ranked No. 1 in two – girls track (third), boys track (first), girls tennis (first), softball (10th in 4A), boys golf (second) and baseball (unranked).
