Catholic stays perfect, eliminate North Davidson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Catholic Cougars remained undefeated Friday, pulling away in the second half to defeat North Davidson 35-23 to advance to the NCHSAA 4A Western Regional final round.

After steamrolling the competition during the regular season, Catholic’s defense has been put to the test through the playoffs, and North Davidson’s explosive offense was no exception. The Black Knights surged out of the gate to take a 7-0 lead, silencing the home crowd early before Catholic even had an opportunity with the ball.

Mike Brodowicz’s team eventually overcame North Davidson, leading by as many 25 points in the fourth quarter.

Catholic will hit the road for the first time in the playoff next week when they visit top seed Dudley for an opportunity to play in the state championship game.
