The Carlisle boys’ basketball team defeated Indianola on Tuesday in a Pride of Warren County scrimmage.
The Wildcats won, 75-58. Their season opener is next Tuesday on the road at Pella.
“Happy to come out and get a win in our first exhibition,” head coach Seth Poldberg said of the scrimmage victory. “The boys have been working hard and it showed last night.”
Junior Max Evans led all scorers with 29 points, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore Tommy Donovan added 11 and also had three 3’s. Junior Jacob Howat and Freshman Collin Lister recorded nine and eight points, respectively.
Even though Carlisle shot and moved the ball well, Poldberg thinks there’s more things needing improved.
“We have a lot to work on, especially on the defensive end as we gave up far too many baskets,” Poldberg said. “We shot poorly from the free-throw line and that is certainly an area that needs improvement.”
Nonetheless, there’s still time to focus on correcting things before the regular season starts. Poldberg said he’s been really pleased with the work ethic his team has shown. They’re also really enjoyable to coach.
“We have a solid mix of some veteran leadership to go along with young, talented players,” Poldberg said. “Our schedule is very challenging, but I think the boys will be ready to go and we hope to be competitive in all games.
Carlisle’s game at Pella next week is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
