INDIANAPOLIS – Central Catholic celebrated its return to Class A this year with a perfect season, capping off a 15-0 record with Friday’s 34-7 state championship win over Linton-Stockton.
West Lafayette fell to Chatard 31-7 in the Class 3A state championship after a late scoring barrage by the Trojans.
For Central Catholic, it’s the fifth state championship in seven seasons, a run interrupted by a pair of heartbreaking losses to Tipton and Rensselaer in the Class 2A tournament the past two seasons.
Brandon Yeagy scored three touchdowns and had eight tackles, including one for loss, to lead the Knights, who handed the ball to Jackson Anthrop 32 times for 149 yards. Luke Fusiek’s 63-yard touchdown on CC’s fifth play set the tone for his 130 yards on four catches. Sam Milazzo kicked a pair of field goals and Ethan Schrader and D’Mitri George led a dominant defense.
Travis Rolle led West Lafayette with 146 rushing yards. Mikey Kidwell was intercepted three times after leading a touchdown drive to open the game.
