The Cedar Creek boys golf team won the regional championship in Division IV Region I on Wednesday in Alexandria.
The Cougars led the way for a field that was dominated by Northeastern Louisiana teams across the board.
Cedar Creek scored 331 as a team to hold-off St. Mary’s of Natchitoches and Ouachita Christian, second- and third-place respectively.
Cedar Creek scored 331 while St. Mary’s scored 333. OCS finished at 338, St. Frederick 344, Hamilton Christian 353, Oberlin 357, Negreet 395, and Delhi Charter rounded out the team scores with 405.
Three of the four schools in the local Division IV district will compete at the state tournament. In addition, with the second-place finish, Brandon Chapman of Family Community Christian in Winnsboro will compete for the state crown.
Cedar Creek, St. Frederick, and Delhi Charter join Cedar Creek in the state tournament field.
Garrett Dolecheck of Ouachita Christian won the overall championship with a round of 74. Chapman was second with a score of 75.
Grayson Gilbert of St. Frederick (77), Zach Pickett (78), Johnny Maxwell (79) and Jacob Brown all of Cedar Creek also finished in the Top 10 of individual scores.
All qualifying golfers will now go compete for the 2015 LHSAA state championship next week. The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette hosts the 2015 LHSAA Division III & IV Championships May 4-5.
