BEAVERTON, Ore. — Central Catholic linebacker La’Mar Winston verbally committed to play football at the University of Oregon Thursday afternoon at The Opening Finals in Beaverton.
“I’m blessed to be able to say I’m going to commit to the University of Oregon,” Winston said on the ESPNU telecast, where he made the announcement.
Winston also took to Twitter to share the news.

The four-star prospect had narrowed down his final three schools to Oregon, Stanford and UCLA. In the end, he picked Oregon because they gave him the best opportunities on and off the field.
“It’s a hometown team and I’ve grown up dreaming to play for them,” Winston said. “They also gave me the best option to get my psychology degree.”
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior is rated as the second-best class of 2016 recruit in Oregon. His teammate and state’s top recruit, safety Brady Breeze, has already committed to Oregon. The Ducks also have another in-state class of 2016 commitment, in Summit tight end Cam McCormick.
Winston was a leading contributor to Central Catholic’s back-to-back state championships. Check out highlights of Winston from last season:
