Chappelear pitches Panthers past Tornadoes

By

Winning pitcher Aaron Chappelear scattered six hits, fanned six and walked one in six innings, as host Maysville shut out West Muskingum 2-0 in a Muskingum Valley League contest called in the seventh for lightning and darkness.

The game also featured a 45-minute rain delay in the top of the fourth.

The Panthers scored in the bottom of the fourth on an error, and Clay Mercer singled home Nate Vallee in the fifth. Vallee walked, stole second and moved to third on a fielder’s choice to set up the insurance run.

Mercer finished 3-for-3 with a double to lead Maysville.

Dylan Lyons took the loss despite 13 strikeouts. He allowed four hits and walked two in a complete game, while Seth Mirgon went 3-for-4 for the Tornadoes.
