Charlotte Catholic shuts out Berry in SoMeck opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Catholic got the SoMeck 8 baseball season opened right Monday, shutting out Berry 21-0.

The Cougars’ offense had no trouble throughout the order, with every Catholic batter earning at least one hit at the plate. Dirk Masters led the way with a game-high 4 hits and 4 RBI. Masters accounted for one of five Charlotte Catholic extra base hits. Charlotte Catholic batters Tommy Miller, Hunter Swanson, Cole Weaver, and Al Womack also had multiple hits in the victory.

Nick Bruno pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 7 Berry sluggers. Davis Sofarelli closed the game in the 5th inning by striking out three of four batters faced.
