CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y.-Its not often that there are three one thousand point scorers on the court at the same time but that’s what happened Monday night in Cheektowaga when the Warriors hosted the East High School Panthers from Buffalo.
Coming into the game East’s Percy Bryant and Cheektowaga’s Zak Ciezki had already reached the milestone. They are both seniors. In the third quarter of the game Cheektowaga sophomore Dominick Welch joined them as one thousand point scorers. It came a on a free throw. Welch got a standing ovation. The game was stopped and he was presented a basketball with his name on it.
Cheektowaga won the game 60-53. Welch finished with 25 points, Bryant had 31 and Ciezki had 18.
Warriors head coach Pat Cullinan told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar “we scheduled the game because we know what a great test it would be for us. Coach Bryant always has his team prepared. We got what we wanted out of the game. We had the right mentality. We go through Dominick and Zak offensively and defensively. Tonight was a good example of the way we want to share the ball. Hopefully this is something we can build off of.”
Welch who rarely comes off the court has played for Cullinan since the eighth grade. “He’s one of those kids, he’s a special talent. Who knows where he’s going to end up but its going to be exciting to watch and I’m going to enjoy.”
