Texas A&M freshman wide receiver Christian Kirk is among those honored today by the Phoenix Chapter of the National Alliance of African American Athletes in a banquet.
Kirk, who led Scottsdale Saguaro to a 14-0 record and the Division III championship last football season, is among 17 student-athletes in Arizona being recognized for their contributions in sports, in the classroom and in the community.
The finalists were chosen based on a grade-point average of 3.00 or above, community service, personal statement and on recommendations from the community.
They are being honored on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic ballroom, 3450 W. Ray Rd., in Chandler.

Christian Kirk, Saguaro, football, wide receiver: Graduated in December with a 3.3 GPA. Was azcentral sports’ Player of the Year. Enrolled at Texas A&M on a football scholarship.
Michael V. Peoples, Avondale Agua Fria, football, defensive tackle: Graduated in December with a 3.8 GPA. On scholarship at San Diego State.
Deonte Williams, Sierra Vista Buena, football, wide receiver: Graduated with a 3.5 GPA. Playing football at Mesa Community College.
Marshall Thompson, Gilbert Williams Field, basketball, forward: Graduated with a 3.6 GPA. Attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical for basketball.
Domic Sealy, Marana/Tucson, soccer (goalie), swimming: Graduated with 3.5 GPA. Has merit scholarship to Northern Arizona University.
Carmeron Solomon, Phoenix Sunnyslope, basketball, guard: Graduated with 3.95 GPA. Going to University of Arizona on an academic scholarship.
Ryan Berry, Phoenix Desert Vista, baseball, pitcher: Graduated in December with a 3.7 GPA. Has scholarship to Gateway Community College.
Kozy Jack, Glendale Independence, football, running back: Graduated with a 3.0 GPA. Has academic scholarship to Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he will play football.
Samuel Reeves, Casa Grande Vista Grande, football, defensive line; wrestling: Graduated with a 3.89 GPA. Will wrestle and play football at Truman State, where he will be on academic scholarship.
Elijah Crockett, Laveen Cesar Chavez, football, wide receiver: Has a 4.1 GPA, member of the National Honor Society.
Trevon Brooks, Gilbert Highland, basketball: Has a 3.9 GPA. Member of the Gilbert Gold Scholar.
Isaiah Ford, Desert Vista, track and field: Has a 3.5 GPA. Has medals at state in two events.
Malique Washington, Tempe McClintock, basketball, guard: Has a 3.83 GPA. Starter on state tournament team.
Justin Holt, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, football, defensive tackle: Has a 3.3 GPA. Has committed to UA for football.
Markus Howard, Gilbert Perry/Las Vegas Findlay Prep, basketball, guard: Has a 3.5 GPA. Won gold medal representing USA in 16U FIBA Americas Championships in Argentina. Two-time All-Arizona.
Damion J. Maxwell, Chandler, football, running back/safety: Has a 4.0 GPA.
Delano Salgado, Phoenix Mountain Pointe, football, running back/linebacker: Has a 3.8 GPA.
