The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association released its All-State selections Thursday, and two area players were selected to the Super Team.
Nick Sueppel of City High and Kevin DeLaney of West High were picked at the catcher and outfield spots, respectively, on the All-State Super Team. The Super Team is made up of the best players across the state, regardless of class.
Sueppel hit .439 with a .605 on-base percentage this season for the Little Hawks. The senior added six doubles, 23 RBI and 40 walks, which led the state.
DeLaney, the Press-Citizen hitter of the year, hit .477 with a .506 on-base percentage. The senior tallied 12 doubles, three home runs, 34 RBI and 72 total hits, which ranked second in the state.
Three more area players were recognized in their respective classes.
West High’s Izaya Ono-Fullard was a first-team pick at third base in Class 4A while Regina outfielder Payton Raso and first baseman/third baseman Luke Gallagher were named first-team in Class 2A.
Ono-Fullard hit .441 with a .512 on-base percentage as a sophomore. He doubled 19 times to go along with 40 RBI.
Raso hit .347 with two home runs and 13 RBI for the Regals. He also was 19-for-19 in stolen bases. Gallagher hit .356 with 11 doubles and 27 RBI.
