Mooney was named Ms. Soccer by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association this week, an award that recognizes excellence on and off the field.
A four-year varsity starter, Mooney certainly excelled on the field during her four years at Clear Creek Amana.
Mooney played a key role in the most successful run in program history.
She scored 31 career goals and had 19 career assists playing primarily as a center midfield. Clear Creek Amana went 55-15 during her four-year career.
Twice named a team captain, Mooney had career-bests of eight goals and nine assists this season while helping the Clippers to a 16-2 record, the best in program history.
Mooney was a four-time all-conference pick and earned first-team all-WAMAC honors each of her final three seasons.
She was a second-team all-region selection as a senior and participated in the East-West All-Star game following her senior year.
Mooney was even more successful away from the field.
A National Honor Society member, Mooney graduated first in her class with a 4.0 grade-point average.
She was valedictorian and served as student council vice president her senior year.
Mooney plans on attending Iowa State University in the fall to major in biochemistry and plans to attend medical school and focus on genetics.
