Cougars to play Franklin, Pisgah

By

Asheville High has released its 2015 football schedule and it’s a doozy.

The 10-time defending conference champion Cougars open up Aug. 21 at home against reigning WNC Athletic Conference champ Franklin. The two schools were together in a former version of the Mountain Athletic Conference but haven’t met since 2009 (a 49-14 state playoff win for Asheville).

Asheville then has a trip to perennial power Newton-Conover (Aug. 28) before another big home game Sept. 4 against Pisgah.

The Cougars and Pisgah have played one another in football since 1999.

One of the biggest road tests for Asheville will be a Sept. 25 game at Winston-Salem Carver.

The Cougars expect to return a trio of All-WNC selections from their 2014 team that went 12-2 and won the MAC 3-A division — junior running back Reggie Battle, junior linebacker Christian Green and junior lineman Pete Leota.
