MARIETTA – Five district titles paced the Chillicothe girls track team to a fourth-place showing at the Division I district track meet at Marietta College Thursday.
Winning district titles for the Cavs were junior Tamia Mills, who topped the field in the 100 hurdles (16.01) and 300 hurdles (50.48); junior Tanea Cousins in the 200 (26.58) and long jump (17-10 3/4, a new district record, breaking the one she set last year); and senior Savannah Bonner, who won the girls pole vault (9-4).
Cousins also narrowly missed winning a third district crown as she was barely nudged out Dover’s Cionnii Williams in the 100 dash final. Both seemingly crossed the finish line at the same time, but the timing system had Williams at 12.835 and Cousins at 12.84. Her effort in the long jump was part of a particularly strong field, as Cousins, second place Alex Johnson (17-8 1/4) of Dover and Cavalier teammate Mills (17-6), who finished third, all beat the district record.
