After finishing the 2014 season with a state championship win at Tennessee Tech, Christ Presbyterian Academy will get to experience an SEC stadium in 2015 when the Lions take on Knoxville Catholic at Vanderbilt Stadium on Aug. 28.
A matchup like this on a big stage is something both programs were seeking, according to CPA head coach Ingle Martin
“We’re excited to enter in with a team that is really coming up and is going to be one of the teams that challenges Fulton in (Class) 4A, and for us to play a quality opponent is something we were both looking for,” Martin said.
While CPA doesn’t typically play at Vanderbilt, the turf should still have a familiar feel for the Lions, who played there in 2012.
“We played Milan there in 2012 and our kids loved it,” Martin added. “This is a chance for our school community and their school community to come down and be part of an SEC atmosphere.”
The game at Vanderbilt will mark the second game of the season for CPA as Martin said the Lions are planning to open their season in Atlanta against either Peachtree Ridge High School or Parkview High School in the Tennessee/Georgia Border Wars Classic on Aug 21.
“I think it’s great,” Martin said. “We’re playing Pearl-Cohn a couple weeks after that and then we are playing at Ensworth, I think, week 6, and it’s an opportunity for our kids to play some of the best teams around is something that will be fun and we will be really excited about it.”
