Cros-Lex falls short in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY – The Croswell-Lexington volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the Traverse City Central Touranment Saturday.

The Pioneers went 4-2-2 on the day, defeating Traverse City Christian 25-16, 25-13, Pine River 25-15, 25-15, Glen Lake 25-15, 25-14 and Glen Lake again in the quarterfinal round 25-17, 25-11.

Rachel Soper had 94 assists and 25 digs on the day. Allessa Calamita had 17 kills, 46 digs and 61 serve receptions, Becca Oden had 32 kills and 17 blocks, Claire Knapp had 25 kills, 61 digs and 61 serve receptions and Lexie Davidson had 39 kills and 36 digs.

Laurel Shaw added 34 digs and 29 serve receptions, Megan Jex had 30 digs, 30 serve receptions and 28 service points and Brooklynn Paradoski had 11 kills and five blocks.

Late Friday

The Port Huron Northern volleyball team traveled to the Macomg Kickoff Tournament and finished 3-4, losing in the Silver Division championship game.

Northern defeated Parkville Christian 25-15, 25-19, Chippewa Valley (25-21, 21-25, 15-6) and Fraser 25-15, 21-25, 15-12.

Brooke Bowerman had 81 assists, 24 service points and three aces to pace Northern. Sami Klink had 28 kills, 23 digs, 15 service points and five aces. Jillian Rusch had 43 digs, 19 points and eight aces. Heidi Wilson added 30 digs, 20 service points and three aces and Carmen Rankin had 19 kills and 23 points and seven aces for Northern (3-4).

Tennis

The Port Huron Northern boys tennis team won the eight team L’anse Creuse North Invitational Saturday.

Northern finished with 25 points and was followed by Utica Eisenhower (20 points), Walled Lake Northern (18), Macomb Dakota (13), L’Anse Creuse North (11), Armada (seven) and Fraser (five).

In No. 1 singles, Northern’s Franklin Brozovich defeated Adam Culver of Fraser, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, Chris Adams of Northern defeated Adam Beneson of Walled Lake Western, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, Johnny Betrus of Northern defeated Jacob Georges of Utica Eisenhower, 6-1, 6-3.

In No. 1 doubles, the Northern team of Dane Wirtz and Nishaan Makim defeated the L’Anse Creuse North team of Matthew Moskal and Blake Kwiecinski, 6-1, 6-2. In No. 2 doubles, Jacob Ureste and Owen Babington of Walled Lake Northern defeated the Northern team of Gabe Ferguson and Paul Brettschneider, 6-4, 6-0, for the flight title.

In No. 4 doubles, the Utica Eisenhower team of Keegan Johnson and Robbie Scrivano defeated the Northern team of Ben Walton and George Naguib, 6-1, 6-3.
