In a game resembling a heavyweight boxing match in terms of swings of momentum, Croton-Harmon held off a late surge from Briarcliff to score a 58-57 home win on Tuesday.
After an even first quarter, Croton-Harmon managed to take a 29-22 lead into halftime, and extended its lead to a 10-point margin at the end of the third quarter.
The Tigers hit the first shot of the third quarter, but Briarcliff switched to a high-pressure defense and went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 47-45. Croton-Harmon’s Owen Ackerman, however, hit a layup to end the team’s scoring drought, and the Tigers never relinquished the lead.
“A lot of it was our mistakes,” Croton-Harmon coach Bill Thom said. “Once we got organized in the press, we were able to attack the rim and get some easier shots.”
With Charlie Goldberg out with the flu, Lucas Curran started in his place and responded with a team-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Teejay Searight chipped in with 10 points.
Sean Crowley led Briarcliff with a game-high 26 points.
