Dane Mechler, center, won the U21 World Water Skiing Championship in Madrid, Spain.

The U21 Water Ski World Championships were held over the Fourth of July weekend in Sesena Madrid, Spain. Moeller High School graduate Dane Mechler won the gold in the Men’s Slalom Event. The event consisted of 45 of the top 21 and under water skiers in the world.

Mechler was the only skier in the finals to successfully complete the 10.75 meter line pass and posted a final score of two buoys at the 10.25 meter line.

Dane is from Loveland and a 2013 graduate of Moeller High School. He attends the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he is studying finance. He is the current Collegiate Men’s slalom national champion and the U.S. Men’s 1 (age18-25) National Champion.
