Andrew Papantonis announced his commitment to the University of Virginia on Twitter about an hour ago, choosing to continue playing baseball. A rising junior at Delbarton, Papantonis was the starting shortstop as well as a versatile member of the football team. He was named first team All Daily Record in both sports.
Papantonis batted .324 with 28 RBI for the Green Wave (21-8) this spring. Last fall, he was 42 for 325 rushing (7.7 yards/carry) with five touchdowns rushing and 22 for 323 receiving (14.7) with another six TD. He also had four INT and returned one for a TD.
Papantonis, a Glen Gardner resident, thanked his parents, coaches and friends in a statement on Twitter, saying “University of Virginia Baseball C/o 2021 #wahoowa.”
UVa won the NCAA Division I baseball title last month.
