The Dennis Smith Jr. Blog: No. 1 PG blogs about Empire, AAU and recent visits to UNC, Duke and N.C. State

Few players, regardless of class, have seen their star rise as quickly as Dennis Smith Jr. After winning a state title last season, Smith turned in a dominant summer on the AAU circuit, full of mind-boggling highlights and wins. Now, as the top point guard and No. 4 overall prospect in the ESPN 60, Smith turned in an even more dominant junior season and subsequently has a “who’s who” of college basketball’s elite all intently pursuing him. Smith has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

Aye, what’s the deal everybody! This is my eighth blog and I’m gonna give y’all an update on how my season ended and a bunch of other stuff too so check me out!

First, I’m definitely excited to tell you guys that I ended up winning Gatorade Player of the Year for North Carolina and that was really big for me because of all the great talent we’ve got here in the state like my boys Harry (Giles), Brandon (Ingram), Chris (Clemons), Bam (Edrice Adebayo) and a lot more players.

It was a major honor to win it! I’m really thankful to Gatorade; it means a lot to me.

That’s the good news, the bad news is that we lost in the state semis to The Burlington School.

They were pretty solid. They just came out and played better than we did that day so that’s all that matters. They went on to win the whole thing.

I hate that we didn’t send our seniors off the way we wanted to, but we had 10 new players this year and to even get back the Final Four was major!

It took me about two days to actually realize that my season was over, and after that I took about a week and a half to rest my body.

I played in a rec league game the first day back from my break and I had fresh legs so that’s why I was so springy in the highlight vid that dropped.

My routine now is lifting three times a week because I’m trying to get to 195 pounds for my senior year then I get shots up and workout and I definitely have to get my haircut too!

Now that my favorite show Empire is off I’ll have a lot more time to catch up on some sleep!

I just want to let y’all know that I’m gonna be on Season 2 of Empire because my acting skills are just on another level right now! I think my rap career is gonna have to take a backseat to my acting career for a while.

Check out my acting skills below and let me know what y’all think! How can they not put me in Season 2?

Let me set it up for y’all: Hakeem’s pops gets in trouble and he doesn’t know about it and I’m the bearer of bad news. Check me out!

Practicing for my role on empire 😎 stay tuned for the next episode

See, told y’all I had skills!

OK, back to basketball; y’all know I’m excited about AAU!

I love this time of year, just traveling all over the country playing in different tournaments and showcases. I’m running with Andrew Wiggins Team Loaded NC and we’re looking strong again this year. I definitely think that we’ve got what it takes to win the adidas Gauntlet!

We’ve got another team in our state now, Team Wall. We wanna play ‘em too before the AAU season starts — maybe a scrimmage or something. That would be fun.

I’ve been out to a few games here lately — Carolina, Duke and N.C. State. It’s always cool going to those schools and seeing how everything is on game day. I like to take my friends and people like that with me to games; people who wouldn’t have that chance any other time. We always have a good time.

I definitely want to start taking visits to out of state schools soon, but those will be officials.

Right now I’d say I talk to Duke, Louisville and UNC the most.

I took my SAT’s recently and I’m feeling really good about that! When I get my scores back, I’ll start making plans for officials so I’ll let y’all know then.

I think it would be cool to have a decision out of the way before I start my senior season, but, to be honest, I have to see who’s staying and who’s not and then make a decision based on all that. I’m thinking I probably won’t decide until spring of my senior year if not later. I just have to make the best decision and, for me, that means I have to have all the information.

I’m still talking to Harry all the time and we’re still talking about teaming up in college; I haven’t talked to Jay (Tatum) as much, but I’m gonna hit him up soon.

OK, time to school y’all on what’s a must-have in music!

Definitely pick up that Big Sean, of course J. Cole and Fabolous has been dropping some heat too so all those are a good look.

Aight y’all stay tuned in for my next blog and definitely watch out for me on Season 2 of Empire!
