Senior right-hander Zac deRocco pitched a complete-game three-hitter and sophomore Ben Porpora had two RBI as the visiting Middletown South baseball team defeated Middletown North 5-0 in a Shore Conference Class A North game to pick up its first win of the season and hand the Lions their first loss of the season.
deRocco struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.
Middletown South (1-4, 1-3) took the lead in the first when two runs scored on errors.
Freddy Yahn had an RBI single in the second, Porpora a sacrifice fly in the third and a run-scoring double in the fifth.
Johnny Zega had two hits and scored two runs. Dave Mangarelli and Austin Markmann each had two hits and scored a run.
Middletown North is now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in Class A North.
The result Christian Brothers Academy (5-0, 2-0), ranked No. 1 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, in sole possession of first place in Class A North.
RB Catholic 6, A.L. Johnson 0: Jack Smith threw five innings of one-hit ball and struck out two, Chris Bender had two RBI and Dave Facendo went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Caseys (4-0) defeated the Crusaders in a nonconference game.
Ocean 11, Chardon (OH.) 0: Brian Kochenash, Brian Olesen and Tyler Rossback each had two hits and two RBI, Anthony Bartolomei pitched six innings of three-hit ball with six strikeouts and had two RBI and Frank Henry and Marc Chernin each had two hits as the Spartans (6-0) concluded their stay in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with the win.
Ocean went 4-0 in Myrtle Beach.

RB Catholic 7, Ocean 3: Lyndsay Benitez led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run and Gabby Bram and Tess Griswold both had two-run doubles later in the sixth as the Caseys (3-3, 3-1) scored six runs to break a 1-1 tie and defeated the Spartans (3-1, 2-1) in a Class B North game.
Griswold and Anne Flego both went 2-for-4.
Veronica Woehr hit a two-run homer in the seventh for Ocean.
Donovan Catholic 7, Pinelands 1: Alexa Pagano belted a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the first, Kelcy McGeehan had a two-run single in the second, Alyssa Hirschy had a run-scoring single in the third and Rebecca Drake had a no-hitter for 5 1/3 innings and wound up with a two-hitter with six strikeouts as the Griffins (4-1, 4-0) defeated the Wildcats (2-1, 2-1) in a Class B South game.
Midd. South 11, Midd. North 2: Maddie McMahon struck out 10, walked two and pitched a five-hitter and Ciarra Sullivan hit a two-run homer and Phoenix Starick hit a solo homer in a five-run third as the Eagles (4-0) defeated the Lions (3-2 in a Class A North game.
