DeSoto Central stops Northwest Rankin, 6-5, in 10




Dallas Woolfolk just took advantage of the opportunity.

Woolfolk hit a walk-off single to left-center field to lift host DeSoto Central past Northwest Rankin, 6-5, in 10 innings and advance to the Class 6A state championship series at Trustmark Park in Pearl.

The Jaguars (26-9) will face either Oak Grove or Biloxi for the Class 6A state championship. DeSoto Central lost to Oak Grove in the 6A state title series last year.

Down 5-2 going into the bottom of the 10th, DeSoto Central scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. Dandy Dozen and Mississippi State signee Austin Riley had a 2-run single and Hayden Tapper had a RBI bunt single to tie the game before Woolfolk delivered the final blow.

With the game tied at 2 in the top of the 10th Shelton Wallace had an RBI double to left to give the Cougars a 3-2 lead. Cannon Gibbs had two hits to lead Northwest Rankin (29-4).

Oxford 10, New Hope 3

Ole Miss commit Jason Barber was the winning pitcher and also homered to lift the Chargers over the Trojans in the decisive Game 3 of the MHSAA Class 5A North state championship series.

Oxford (33-1) will face George County for the Class 5A state championship.

Jack McClure had a three-run home run for Oxford in the fourth inning to give the Chargers a 6-2 lead.

New Hope, the two-time defending 5A state champs, finishes 25-7.
