Developmentally disabled student barred from cheerleading

By

Parents of a developmentally disabled student at Hoehne (Trinidad, Colo.) High School are meeting with administrators after their daughter was barred from participating in a high school cheerleading competition last week.

The student-athlete, identified as Rachael by Denver’s ABC affiliate, has reportedly participated in practice sessions as a freshman on Hoehne’s cheerleading squad, but the local television news program shows footage of a teammate guiding a frustrated Rachael off the mat during a competition.

The Colorado High School Athletic Association is awaiting a ruling by the school until weighing in on the matter, according to Denver7 News.
