Citing an “ongoing legal situation,” officials with the 2016 Under Armour All-America Game has dismissed North Webster star Devin White, one of the nation’s top recruits, from the contest to be held Jan. 2 in Orlando, Florida.
On Nov. 20, the morning of North Webster’s second-round playoff game against Amite, White and teammate Keuntra Gipson were arrested in Springhill and charged with misdemeanor carnal knowledge of a juvenile (a 14-year-old girl).
“I can confirm that Devin White will no longer be participating in the 2016 Under Armour All-America Game due to an ongoing legal situation,” Steve Flaherty, the communications manager for Intersport, said.
Lynd told The Times the matter is will go to court.
“It’s up to the district attorney’s office when they set the time on it,” Lynd said Thursday. “It was transferred from the court here, down to the district court in Minden. As far as I know there is nothing set there yet.”
White and Gipson, both seniors, barely escaped felony charges. Louisiana law requires a four-year difference in ages to draw a felony. According to Lynd, White, 17, was five months shy of that number; Gipson, 18, two months.
“Crazy that my dream & goal got took from me, worked so hard for it but still want to thank @AllAmericaGame @UAFootball for the opportunity,” White posted on Twitter on Wednesday.
White and Gipson were allowed to play against Amite. The Knights fell in a heartbreaker, 45-42.
At 6-foot-1 and 260 pounds, White is the No. 8 overall recruit in Louisiana by ESPN. He’s listed as No. 99 overall and No. 3 athlete in the nation.
On Sept. 16 at North Webster High School, Under Armour All-America officials presented White with an honorary game jersey commemorating his selection to the game.
Wednesday, LSU head coach Les Miles and Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema made recruiting visits to White’s home. Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State and Auburn are also in the running to claim the four-star recruit.
White has said he will wait until National Signing Day (Feb. 3) to declare his intentions.
