In the third edition of the girls’ basketball Dirty Dozen, there is already a new No. 1 team in the rankings.
This could be the foretelling of how many good girls’ basketball teams there are in West Tennessee, since there are still seven undefeated teams in the area.
South Side was No. 1 last week, but the Lady Hawks took two losses on the week, so they fell to No. 6.
Westview, a team that has reached the Class AA state tournament for the past three seasons, is the new No. 1.
So here is the full listing of teams in the girls’ basketball Dirty Dozen:
1Westview (13-AA) (5-0) – The Lady Chargers won twice in the Westview Thanksgiving Classic to remain unbeaten, but they will be tested later this week against Liberty and Gibson County. Results: Beat Halls, Lexington. Last week: No. 2.
2Gibson County (14-A) (7-0) – The Lady Pioneers picked up two quality wins over AA South Side and two-time state tournament participant Houston County. Results: Beat South Side, Houston County, Halls. Last week: No. 3.
3Middleton (15-A) (4-0) – The Lady Tigers picked up their 39th straight win, despite not shooting the best on Tuesday. West Carroll and Humboldt loom this weekend. Results: Beat Liberty. Last week: No. 4.
4USJ (D2-A) (7-0) – The Lady Bruins won the Zaxby’s Thanksgiving Classic with three wins before picking up a quality road win at Obion County. Results: Beat JCM, Bolton, Briarcrest, Obion County. Last week: No. 5.
5Haywood (15-AA) (3-2) – After losing their first two games, the Lady Tomcats won three straight games this week with two wins coming against Dirty Dozen opponents. Results: Beat Obion County, Bradford, South Side. Last week: No. 12.
6South Side (14-AA) (4-2) – The Lady Hawks struggled at times and took two losses against two of the better teams in West Tennessee. Results: Beat Dresden; Lost to Gibson County, Haywood. Last week: No. 1.
7Lexington (14-AA) (4-2) – The Lady Tigers split four games, but they did play some tough competition in the Westview Thanksgiving Classic in the two losses. Results: Beat Hardin County, Scotts Hill; Lost to Dyer County, Westview. Last week: No. 6.
8Dresden (13-A) (3-2) – The Lady Lions picked up two wins, and the lone loss was against a quality Class AA team. Results: Beat Bradford, Graves County (Ky.); Lost to South Side. Last week: No. 8.
9Huntingdon (3-0) – The Fillies are still unbeaten after pulling off a tough win at home for the season sweep over Jackson Christian. Results: Beat Jackson Christian. Last week: No. 9.
10South Gibson (4-1) – The Lady Hornets picked up two easy wins, but games will begin to get tougher beginning with a rematch with Jackson Christian on Friday. Results: Beat Madison, Sacred Heart. Last week: No. 10.
11TCA (15-A) (4-1) – The Lady Lions picked up a win in the lone game of the week, but a tough Lexington teams looms on Friday night. Results: Beat Chester County. Last week: No. 11.
12Milan (13-AA) (3-0) – The Lady Bulldogs are undefeated in the first three games of the season, and that includes a win over a good Peabody team. Results: Beat West Carroll. Last week: Not ranked.
Dropped out: Bradford (3-4)
Teams eligible for the Dirty Dozen rankings are those who represent schools from The Jackson Sun’s 13-county circulation area: Madison, Gibson, Henderson, Chester, Hardeman, Haywood, Crockett, Weakley, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, McNairy and Hardin.
