The Dunbar High School girls basketball team is shooting for a special place in Lee County sports history tonight.
The Tigers (24-4) will face Orlando Lake Highland Prep (28-2) at 8:05 p.m. in the Class 4A state championship game at the Lakeland Center.
With a victory, Dunbar won’t just capture its second girls basketball title in four seasons but it will also become the seventh Lee County high school to win multiple state championships in a single sport.
Fort Myers, which leads all county high schools with 13 team state titles, is also the only one with multiple titles in three different sports — wrestling (4), boys golf (3) and boys cross country (2).
The Estero girls cross country program has the longest streak of consecutive state championships in Lee County history, winning four in a row from 2010-13.
Below are the six Lee County high schools that have won multiple team Florida High School Athletic Association state championships in a varsity sport.
