EAGLE — A beloved softball coach at Eagle High passed away overnight. Doug Corta had been battling a brain tumor since March 2014.

Corta’s wife confirmed the news on the Facebook page Corta’s Caring Clan Friday morning.

“My heart is completely broken! The love of my life, my best friend and the best dad to my three amazing girls was welcomed home in heaven,” she wrote.

This past season, in what turned out to be Doug’s final season as the head coach at Eagle, the Mustangs won the 5A state championship behind one of the most potent offenses the state of Idaho has ever seen. The team finished the season with a 30-1 record.

Earlier this week, over 180 athletes from Weber State – where his oldest daughter plays softball – sent him letters. Most of them had never met Corta.

Corta leaves behind a wife and three daughters. In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that donations be made to the Doug Corta Softball Complex Fund. A college fund has also been set up for his daughters at Mountain America Credit Union.
